MaDD DAY

In Term 1, 2009, Kelvin Grove State College Performing Arts staff hoisted the main-sail and welcomed aboard students from Year 4 & 5 from primary schools around Brisbane for a morning of pirate action and activities. Students engaged with activities from Drama, Dance and Music to experience a taste of what KGSC has to offer.

MOVING OPERA

KGSC Performing Arts department welcomed Opera Queensland and students from across Brisbane to a week of vocal and operatic workshops. Students worked alongside professional artists, polishing and perfecting a number of performances that were presented at a culminating performance at the end of the week.

EXTENSION DRAMA PERFORMANCE – REALITY DREAMS

For their mainstream production in 2008, the Year 11 Extension Drama class twisted and parodied the world of Reality TV through their comedy piece, Reality Dreams. Playing over two nights, students both performed in and production managed the performance, entertaining audiences of their parents, friends and peers.

PRIMARY SCHOOL TOUR

In 2008-09, students from the Extension Drama program devised and facilitated a number of story drama workshops for primary school students, touring around to local primary schools. Each workshop was centred around a twisted fairytale and saw Captain Hook invade classrooms, Jack and Jill become lost in a mysterious and confusing world and even the theft of the Gingerbread Girl’s gumdrop buttons! The Extension Drama ensembles gained valuable experience in the Children’s Theatre style and developed an understanding of the learning outcomes from the P-10 Arts Syllabus.

BACK TO THE 80s MUSICAL SPECTACULAR

In 2008, Kelvin Grove State College transported audiences back to a time when fluorescent socks matched your earrings, shoulder pads were essential, Pac Man ruled and floppy disks...were floppy. We relived the highs and lows of high school in the 80s, interspersed with all favourite 80s classics like Wake Me Up Before You Go Go, Love Shack, Total Eclipse of the Heart and Walking on Sunshine.

This production involved students from Years 4 – 12 and ran over 4 days and nights to packed houses. The piece was a triumph of fluorescent Rubik’s cubes and killer voices, and featured an array of our talented singers, actors, dancers, musicians and choreographers.
