BYOx connectivity and software

While onsite at the College, Year 7-12 students are to use their BYOx laptops to access the following links on their BYOx laptop to gain access to connectivity and software tools.

Step 1 - BYOx_Software_Client (Internal Only) (download then install Windows or Apple version)

Attention Apple laptop users: when opening the application, press and hold down Control button while installing. 

Step 2BYOx_Client_Application (Internal Only)

Windows and Apple users: if prompted for a username and password, it is for your laptop (do not use your school username and password).

Microsoft Office 2016

All Queensland state school students from Prep–Year 12 can download multiple free copies of the Microsoft Office 2016 Suite to their personal home and mobile computer.

Students will need to use their Managed Internet Service (MIS) login, school email account and password. Alternatively, this link is also available at

Year 7-12 students need to install Microsoft Office 2016 on their BYOx laptop.

Students must uninstall this software from all of their devices once they are no longer enrolled in a Queensland state school.

Adobe Creative Cloud Suite - CC Design and Web Desktop apps

The College has purchased an annual subscription through the DET Enterprise Agreement for Adobe Creative Cloud Complete Desktop apps suite which enables the CC Design and Web Desktop apps to be installed Year 7-12 students on their BYOx laptops (not stay at home devices). 

Please note that these are not cloud-based programs, and need to be installed on the hard drive of laptops. The programs are not suitable to be used on mobile devices such as tablets.


  • Previous versions of Adobe software must be uninstalled before attempting to install any of the programs below

  • Many applications are 64 bit only (Microsoft Windows and MacOS). Some applications, in particular the Video and Audio apps do not have a 32 bit Windows option whilst other apps will revert to an earlier version.

CC Design and Web Desktop Apps (version CC 2018 unless otherwise indicated).

The Adobe programs listed below are free and there is no form, payment or serialisation required before or after installation.
All Year 7-12 students may choose to install them on their BYOx laptops, and some subjects require students to install and use a number of programs.

The  industry-standard vector graphics app lets you create logos, icons, sketches, typography, and complex illustrations for print, web, interactive, video, and mobile. 


The industry-leading page design and layout toolset lets you work across desktop and mobile devices to create, preflight, and publish everything from printed books and brochures to digital magazines, iPad apps, eBooks, and interactive online documents. 



InCopy lets copywriters and editors style text, track changes, and make simple layout modifications to a document while designers work on the same document simultaneously in Adobe InDesign CC — all without overwriting each other’s contributions.

 Acrobat DC

Create, edit, collect e-signatures and comments, protect, collaborate on, and print PDF documents and editable forms  and send large files

Lightroom  (2015)

Organise, edit, share and enhance photographs, manage photo collections and publish images to a variety of formats.

Fuse (Preview)

A new 3D modelling app that allows unique human characters to be created quickly for Adobe Photoshop CC images, designs, prototypes and more


Use a modern interface and a fast, flexible coding engine to give web designers and front-end developers easier ways to create, code, and manage websites on any size screen.

CC Complete Desktop Apps (Video and Audio tools)

Year 7-12 students wishing to install the following additional Adobe programs on their BYOx laptop should see Ms Isbell, eLearning HOD, in the Middle Senior Library to obtain further information re application, payment and serialisation processes.


Premiere  Pro

Industry leading editing software used by filmmakers and video creators to create digital content on film and for television and the web  

After Effects

The industry-standard animation and creative compositing app lets you design and deliver professional motion graphics and visual effects for film, TV, video, and web.


For mixing, finishing and precision editing of audio

Character Animator (Beta)

Animate artwork created in Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop CC. Use your webcam to give characters lifelike movement

Speed Grade (2015)

A colour grading application that allows layer-based colour correction and look design tools to ensure that digital video projects are visually consistent and aesthetically compelling. Used by editors, filmmakers and visual effects artists.


A video logging and ingest tool for initiative, efficient media organisation and metadata entry. Rapidly tag and transcode video footage and quickly create a rough cut.

Encore CS6

Create and edit DVDs, Blu-ray disc and web DVDs

Accessing and installing all Adobe software

Year 7-12 students can access and install all of the above Adobe software programs on their BYOx laptops while on campus:

Students should see the Student Tech Hub in the Middle Senior Library if experiencing any issues, or the HOD eLearning to escalate issues or seek assistance with Adobe software matters. 

Any Adobe programs installed on BYOx laptops must be uninstalled programs once Year 7-12 students are no longer enrolled at the College.

Symantec Nortons Security with backup

Information about this DET offer is available through the Student Learning Place portal

Year 7-12 students must have a security suite on their laptops, and may consider purchasing this product under this DET arrangement.



This free program is to be installed on Year 7-12 student BYOx laptops for use in Mathematics subjects.

Wheelers ePlatform (eBooks)
