The Enrichment Centre works collaboratively with other faculties, students, parents and the wider school community to meet the needs of students with disabilities across Prep – 12 within the classroom as well as supporting literacy and numeracy development, social skills and work education.
Students are verified in the areas of intellectual disability (ID), autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) or speech language impairment (SLI). Low incidence areas of hearing impairment (HI), vision impairment (VI) or physical impairment (PI) are supported by an advisory visiting teacher in collaboration with the staff at the Enrichment Centre.
The level and type of support given to students is dependent on their individual needs and varies across subject areas and classroom settings and includes:
Collaborative planning with class teachers
In class support (if appropriate)
Literacy and/or Numeracy program (if required)
Work skills program.
Following consultation with parents/carers, school staff and/or an external specialist, decisions are made regarding each student’s ability to access their current year level curriculum for each subject area and the most appropriate setting to maximise participation and access. Mostly:
student can access same age curriculum in a mainstream class with adjustments.
student can access same age curriculum in a mainstream class with adjustments but needs some assistance from support staff.
student can access curriculum at a lower/higher key juncture with parallel links to same age curriculum student in a mainstream class with adjustments.
