Kelvin Grove State College operates a student leadership program known as the Student Representative Council (SRC). Student members of the SRC are nominated by their fellow students at the beginning of the academic year, and as such, represent all students in the school and organise ways for students to participate in school life.
The key roles of the College’s Middle School SRC are to build connections between students and the school, to provide a platform for students’ voices and opinions, as well as to provide an excellent foundation in leadership training and opportunities.
Some of the main activities undertaken by these students include:
- Improvements to the school environment and facilities (water bubblers, gardens etc.)
- Organisation of events specific to the Middle School (such as the Middle School Dance)
- Transitional programs between the Junior School SRC and the Middle School SRC
- Participation in college events (Open Days, Transition Days, Sports Carnivals)
- Fundraising
The Council is coordinated by Middle School teaching staff. The Council meets at least once per week; however, student SRC representatives are aware of extra time required by them on occasion as part of their commitment to their role. Some of the common characteristics of Student Representatives are commitment, a sense of responsibility to their local community, enthusiasm, a strong sense of work ethic and the possession of leadership qualities.
Kelvin Grove State College’s Student Representative Council is an invaluable committee that plays an integral role in student leadership and student representation.
