School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SATs)
School-based apprenticeships and traineeships (SATs) allow high school students, generally in Years 10, 11 or 12, to work for an employer and train towards a recognised qualification, while completing their secondary schooling and studying for their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) or equivalent.
Students benefit from hands-on experience and on average work one day per week. They are paid for the time spent at work. SATs can be undertaken in a wide variety of occupations e.g. automotive, business, carpentry, child care, electrician, hairdressing, hospitality, tourism, etc.
SATs can be sourced in a number of ways, often it is through word-of-mouth, part time employment and work experience. KGSC would like to invite any parents who are able to offer any opportunities through their own business or place of employment to contact the VET & Pathway Coordinator. We are more than happy to supply further information or to meet with you to discuss what is involved.
SAT student application process
Students submit an expression of interest form to the Head of Department Senior School Jennifer DaSilva and the VET and Pathways Coordinator, Mrs Emma Zhao.
Students will then be invited to attend an interview to work through each stage to finalise the SAT contract and other documentation required by the Queensland Government.
