Why BYOx at KGSC?
In the pursuit of excellence with all our might, the KGSC Year 6-12 Bring Your Own Device (BYOx) Program aims to enhance the curriculum program to improve student learning outcomes through increased access to digital tools, learning resources and pedagogy. Individualised learning and differentiation for students, and opportunities for students to further develop into responsible digital citizens with high level digital skills will also be enhanced.

Connectivity of BYOx Laptops
Onboarding of new student BYOx laptops to the College wireless network and/or connection to associated services (e.g. internet, printing, access to student and common network drives) is through the Department of Education provided technical solution, BYOx Link (Microsoft InTune).
Information is emailed to parents/carers and students prior to the start of Term 1 each year, with follow up emails giving updates and additional information if required.
Before attempting to onboard a new BYOx laptop using BYOxLink students MUST:
Timelines and procedures for connecting new BYOx laptops
- provided to students by class teachers and in student daily notices (Daymap) and included in sub-school start of year procedures
- Students access BYOx connectivity "how to" guides and videos on the Student SharePoint site (school username and password required to access)
- Students should set the Student SharePoint home page as a "Favourite" (or Bookmark) in their BYOx laptop browsers for easy access.
Technical Assistance (after attempting to onboard BYOx laptop only):
- From Day 2 of Term 1, students should attempt to onboard their new BYOx laptops - recommended this is done at home as laptops may require updates to be installed
- students who have attempted to onboard their BYOx laptop and experienced issues can go to the Student Tech Hub in the Middle Senior Library before school from 8 am - 8.45 am and during breaks. Note there are often long lines during these times
- During Weeks 1-3 in Term 1, students who have attempted to onboard their BYOx laptop and experienced issues can go to the Student Tech Hub in the Middle Senior Library during class time as per schedules in daily student notices.
- From Week 3 Term 1, any ongoing issues connecting BYOx laptops should be escalated to the HOD eLearning and ICT Manager by emailing details to BYOx@kelvingrovesc.eq.edu.au.
College BYOx Equity Program
A limited number of College owned laptops are available for families who are not able to provide a BYOx laptop for their Year 6-12 student due to financial hardship.
Application for consideration for this program is through Sub-School Principal, and further information may be required to be provided on request.
Daily arrangements for borrowing Equity Program laptops are as per the Daily Borrowing program below. Students can access the daily borrowing program if waiting for an Equity laptop application to be processed, or for an Equity laptop to be set up (usually takes a minimum of 48 hours).
Daily Borrowing Program
The Daily Borrowing Program is usually available from Day 2 Week 1 in Term 1.
A limited number of College owned laptops are available on a "first in" basis for Year 6-12 students to borrow each day if they have an issue with their own BYOx laptop or while the student's BYOx laptop is being repaired or replaced. There is no charge for this program.
Year 6-12 students needing to borrow a "daily borrowing" laptop can do so from the Student Wellbeing Centre at the following times:
- 8 am to 8.50 am
- the first 10 minutes of each lesson (with teacher permission note only)
- during morning tea and lunch breaks
These laptops must not be taken home, and must be returned by 3.30 pm each day.
