Kelvin Grove State College (KGSC) has a rich history of sporting excellence, dating back to the inception of the Queensland Golf School of Excellence, developed in Partnership with Golf Queensland in 1986. Since then, the College has expanded the programs to include the Queensland Tennis School of Excellence, the Football School of Excellence, and most recently in 2016 the Volleyball School of Excellence.

Our sports excellence programs provide students with the opportunity to combine the study of their chosen sport at a high level, with their academic studies. Our programs are among the top sports programs in the country, in terms of currency, program components, success and student achievement.

Students are accepted into our programs through an application and trial process, and involvement in the programs will attract an additional cost. Program coordinators can be contacted for details on the most up to date fee structure.

Sport Specialisation Programs

In 2024, Kelvin Grove will be introducing a new tier of Sporting Program, called Specialisation programs. These programs will be more involved than our extra-curricular programs, and include some elements of what makes our Excellence Programs so successful. This Specialisation tier of program will begin by introducing two new sporting programs, Rugby 7s and Swimming & Triathlon.

The Specialisation Tier will include selective entry, where athletes will apply and trial for a position in the program. As with the Excellence programs, selection into the Specialisation Programs will be informed by performance in the sport, behaviour and effort in school classes, coachability, attitude and athletic potential.

Our Rugby 7s program will be kicking off with the support of the QRU, and will involve elite level coaches from Queensland Rugby, as well as links with Rugby Australia, and overseen by Level 3 Rugby AU coach, Matt Chapman.
Swimming & Triathlon Specialisation will be headed up by Trent Steele, and will engage Trent Patten, founder of Reddog Triathlon squad and former National level swim coach.

For more information, please see the FAQ documents and application forms at the side of this page.

**Please note that the Sport Specialisation programs are for students currently enrolled or with a future enrolment at KGSC. The College is not offering selective entry enrolment via these programs**
