Support for students
EAL/D
The English as an Additional Language/Dialect or EAL/D department support students where English is not their first language. ESL needs are identified through the enrolment interview process and is provided for students from Prep to Year 12.
Kelvin Grove State College employs a number of specialist staff, teachers and teacher aids dedicated to helping international students in all aspects of their program.
If required, you will have access to our High School Preparation or HSP Program which is a NEAS accredited program that provides intensive language studies for secondary students to assist with their transition into mainstream education.
Homework club and investing for success
Kelvin Grove State College in conjunction with the government funded initiative Investing for Success (I4S), offers all students from Years 6 – 12 access to outside of school group tuition classes. These sessions allow students to complete homework, assignments or seek clarification on any challenges they may be facing within their subjects.
All out of school tuition sessions are supervised by an I4S Teacher and a selection of Academic Tutors who specialise in Literacy and Numeracy.
Homestay for international students
Staying in a homestay gives you the opportunity to make friends with Australians, improve your English language skills, share information about your culture and adjust to a new country while living in a safe and caring environment.
Each Australian homestay family is interviewed and visited by a school representative in their home. We strive to ensure students are placed with safe and caring homestay families. All our homestay hosts are very friendly and enjoy having students from other countries live with them.
Local excursions
During each terms' orientation program, you will have the opportunity to get to know your fellow students on a day trip to iconic local destinations such as the world famousLone Pine Koala Sanctuary or Australia Zoo.
