Becoming a homestay provider for international students at Kelvin Grove State College, has brought the world into my home. This experience continues to be mutually rewarding and one of the highlights of being a host is building positive relationships with students.
There is a great amount of ongoing support from the International Homestay Office team who are caring and courteous, paving the way for a smooth transition for both host and student. Their ongoing communication and support continue to be exemplary.
I became a homestay provider with Kelvin Grove State College, because of the benefits for both my family and host students, especially the opportunities for cross cultural learning and sharing knowledge.
The cultural change, language, and different school program can be daunting for some students so establishing new routines, meal planning and considering my students' needs and preferences have been effective ways to encourage conversation and build open, friendly, relationships with my students.
Food is always a popular topic of conversation!
When students are feeling safe and happy, they will have the freedom to learn and this care is so appreciated by their families.

I like being a homestay as it gives me greater insight into other cultures. It’s rewarding to support a young person and their family achieve their goals. Such a positive experience for my daughter and our family.
