Our Vision
In the face of a constantly changing world, Academic Achievers Global Leaders brings to life our College's Just Cause: Nurturing globally competent learners, leaders, and citizens. Our commitment is to empower students with the knowledge, skills, and perspectives essential for thriving in an interconnected world. We strive to foster a profound understanding of global issues, encouraging a commitment to positive, collaborative solutions by embedding global competency at the core of our educational approach.
Aligned with our Middle School Pathway, Academic Achievers Global Leaders aims to ignite the spark within each student, propelling them to be their best and be ready for their future.
Through our innovative curriculum, students will embark on a transformative journey, aligned with the Department of Education's Global Competence Framework.
Students will:
- Gain a deep appreciation for the perspectives and world views of others
- Actively examine local, global, and intercultural issues
- Engaging in open, appropriate, and effective interactions across diverse cultures
- Take action for collective wellbeing and sustainable development.
By supporting students in developing curiosity and fostering open-mindedness, we will cultivate critical thinkers and compassionate leaders. Our goal is to equip students not only with academic excellence but also with the skills necessary to contribute meaningfully to our ever-evolving global community. Academic Achievers Global Leaders envisions a future where our students, having embraced our vision, emerge as well-rounded individuals ready to navigate the complexities of the world and make a positive impact on society.
Our Program
Students in the Academic Achievers Global Leaders Program are provided extension and enrichment opportunities whilst learning the Australian Curriculum in Mathematics, Science, English and Humanities. As with all students in Year 7, 8 and 9, students in the Program will share the same class for these learning areas and follow the same timetable structure and have the same elective choices as their peers at KGSC. Student progress is still measured against the achievement standards of the Australian Curriculum.
For students who participate in the Academic Achievers Global Leaders Program at Kelvin Grove State College, the curriculum is designed with careful consideration for level, pace and a degree of abstraction and complexity appropriate to the needs of high achieving learners who thrive on being extended. These curriculum provisions include:
- an accelerated pace with fewer repetitions whilst still providing clear instruction and scaffolding
- adjusted tasks to allow students to process more complex and abstract information and encourage higher order thinking skills
- opportunities to engage in learning with students with similar academic goals and shared interests, with the aim of developing collaborative skills in problem-solving, critical and creative thinking, and self-reflection
- encouragement to pursue independent inquiries that demonstrate innovative and rigorous responses that may involve extended outcomes.
Our Topics
Alongside the Australian Curriculum, the Academic Achievers Global Leaders Program has a strong focus on the United Nations Global Goals for Sustainable Development.
Our curriculum units follow a variety of topics and themes to encourage deep learning and global awareness, allowing them to understand and appreciate their place in the world and the positive impact they can have on others.
