The Music Excellence Program is designed to deepen music students’ knowledge and understanding of music theory through AMEB studies in order to extend their application in the dimensions of performance, composition and analysis of music.
The program embeds an ICT pedagogy. All students are required to be part of the College Bring Your Own Device (BYOX) program and purchase an Apple Macbook device. Students use technology to interact with the repertoire, complete online testing and assignments and compose and record music.
The Music Excellence Program has been approved as a Variable Progression Program with accelerated learning into Senior Music subject. Music Excellence students will complete this course over Year 10 and 11. Students may then undertake pre-tertiary studies or a further Senior Music subject in Year 12, Music Extension. Students in this subject may specialize in performance, composition or musicology.
To participate in the Music Excellence program, it is mandatory that students are already involved in the school instrumental or choral programs. Students who are keyboard players are welcome to audition but must be prepared to commit to learning mallet percussion in the instrumental percussion program. Guitarists (bass and lead) may audition for limited places within jazz ensembles such as Big Band, Percussion and contemporary ensembles. The aim of this program is to prepare students for Extension studies in Senior Music.
Entry to the Music Program is through application. On submission of the Expression of Interest, students will be contacted with audition information.
