Who are we?
The Environmental Committee is a sub-branch of the Senior Representative Council. Our members come from Grades 6 to 12 (ages 10 - 18). We currently have 45+ enthusiastic members. A Senior Leader (Year 12 student) is chosen each year to run the Environmental Committee. There are two teachers that assist the Student Leader.
Environmental Committee members meet once a week.
Our motto is, “Think globally, act locally”. We make a difference.
Our achievements include:
Introduced paper recycling in the Middle and Senior School.
Replaced classroom lighting with energy efficient lighting.
Planted on Arbor Day.
Set up a citrus orchard (with the aim of selling the fruit to support our initiatives).
Ran a Clean Up Australia Day School Event.
Promoted Earth Hour each year.
Organised Guest Speakers (such as the former Queensland Environment Minister).
Raised funds to support all our projects through cake stalls, sausage sizzles and chocolate drives.
Planted birdwing vine aristolochia praevenosa to provide food for the endangered.
Richmond Birdwing Butterfly.
