Eighteen chess players from across our Middle and Senior Schools attended the Term 1 Brisbane Secondary Schools Interschool Chess Competition yesterday, representing our College beautifully and coming away with both team and individual medals. The students competed in 30-minute games against 340 students from other secondary schools across five divisions, with the tournament running for the entire day. Medals were awarded to the top teams and individuals in each division.
Oliver, Shubh, Ethan and Leonard finished equal 14th in A Division, out of 23 teams, winning 4,3,3 and 2.5 points respectively.
Zachary placed 2nd in C Division, winning 6 games, while his team, which also included Hugo, Jude and Samuel, placed equal 2nd. Also in this division, Shrey and Anh Minh, won 4 and 3 points respectively.
No doubt Adam will be moving out of D division in the next Interschool competition after finishing equal first on 6.5 points. The most improved performer in this division would have to be Riana, who only started playing three weeks ago and won 4 games! In Division E, Izra played very well, winning 5 points.
Huge
congratulations
to all of our players - they are now looking forward to our next Interschool Competition, which will be held on 23 May at Churchie. Special thanks to Mathematics and Science Teacher, Guy McNicol, who runs our Chess Club and supported the students throughout the tournament.
Our Middle and Senior School Chess Club runs every Wednesday lunchtime in the library annexes and students of all abilities from Years 6-12 are welcome to come along and play.
