On Sunday, 11 August, the Years 7–9 Dance Excellence students competed at the Dance X Eisteddfod held at Moreton Bay College. Over 23 schools competed in the Junior Secondary sections. Each year level (Years 7–9) competed as a separate performance troupe in the categories of Contemporary, Jazz, and Lyrical.
The Year 9 troupe received a Highly Commended for their Contemporary performance and a Wild Card entry to the State Finals later in the year for
their Jazz performance.
The growth in student performances was evident across each year level. The teamwork, respect for each other, and support for performances from other schools were an excellent reflection of our College values.
As a further achievement to celebrate, Year 7 student London Rayward received the award for Junior Secondary Standout Performer. London keenly participated in all the professional experience auditions in Jazz, Contemporary, and Hip Hop. She received first place for her Lyrical audition and third place for Hip Hop. Students undertook a 30-minute session learning choreography from a professional dancer across Jazz, Contemporary/Lyrical, and Hip Hop, then competed for adjudication. It was an excellent opportunity to experience the real-world challenge of the audition process. Well done, London!
Many thanks to Nicole Galea, Dance Excellence Coordinator, and the Dance Excellence staff for their tireless energy in mentoring and providing such an opportunity for our Dance Excellence students in their pursuit of excellence.
